Zine

Zines

I learnt that creating that you can create a zine about anything. I found this fun as I could let my imagination run away with me. I learnt that zines were  created for small press about anything that interests you. Below I posted the dictionary definition of zines.
'zine or zine (zin)
n.
1. an individualistic, small-circulation magazine typically produced cheaply by a single nonprofessional enthusiast.
2. such a magazine existing on the World Wide Web.

Manual

Manual

A manual is an instruction sheet giving you advice in a simple methodical way. We did this to inform people how to make your very own personal sketchbook. This is a fun way of informing people without being dull e.g. a boring washing machine manual. First of all we hand sketched and inked our own drawing and texts. This was to make it our own and a fabulous chance to get arty and creative!! The result is the above accordion style booklet! I learnt to enhance my graphics skills, both traditionally and digitally, to create a fun piece of work.

Book Binding

I enjoyed making the sketchbook. I didn't have any problems  and I was very satisfied with the final piece. I love the colours and the technique.

InDesign and layout trials

NME Magazine Cover ( InDesign )

Final work

The task was to create an almost duplicate copy of the original NME magazine cover using InDesign. First of all I use Dafont to find the different fonts I would need later on when I started piecing it together. I downloaded the original NME magazine cover from the AS Graphics course blog and imported it into InDesign. I then set the page as a double spread so that I could make a almost duplicate copy matching the fonts and imagery as closely possible to the original. Part of this process was to choose four boys as models to recreate the pose and photoshop them into my own cover. I then had to use InDesign to put together the different parts that made up the whole cover. I enjoyed this task because I learnt to use a different design program which taught me what's involved in creating professional magazine covers and the tricks you can use!

Magazine Analysis

The magazine analysis is really important as it shows me how a magazine is set out. It was really interesting to unpick the magazine.

Photoshop Blending Modes

Work - In - Progress

I didn't  enjoy this process as it was tricky as well. I think I struggled as it was a  bit  complex.

Cut 'n' Paste Poetry

Working Progress

I  planed this in two steps. The first step was to actually form the sentences out of paper. The second step was to edit these in photoshop. I enjoyed the second step a lot more than the first step.

John Porcellino

We did a fanzine in the style of John Porcellino. The objective was to teach us how to improve our work and that ordinary everyday stuff is interesting and poignant or funny because it is all part of life experiences.  Fanzines are just made for the fun of it  rather than printed in large volumes for profit. John Porcellino is  this guy who created the King Kat  zines which are so COOL. He started quite young and as he got older his strips became more defined and mature.
Personally I don't think mines very good but other people think it's funny. However I did enjoy creating stories surrounding things that had happened to me. This helped me to understand why people enjoyed makin zines as they can be very addicted.
